These are scenes from an extremely expensive party held the other day, hosted for friends by Varvara Mazaraki — the daughter-in-law of funeral magnate Lev Mazaraki, who is a confidant of the head of the FSB for Moscow and the Moscow Region, Alexei Dorofeev, as well as other security service generals. Among the honored guests — Lisa Peskova.

“Varyusha threw a party just because,” one of the party’s attendees writes on social media. The venue was the Soho Rooms club, which belongs to the Mazaraki family. Varvara thanked the family for all this happiness from the stage. In huge “troughs” were dozens of bottles of Louis Roederer champagne from the Collection series (shipments to Russia are banned under the fifth sanctions package), packed in ice and white roses. On the tables, in small “troughs,” black caviar, oysters, and so on. On stage, “Banderos” performed the anthem of all those gathered — “Life Has Turned Out Well.” Next came a graduate of the Suvorov military academy, who once sat next to Shoigu, and now a performer of criminalized rap — ICEGERGERT (Georgy Gergert). Yes, the very same one recently charged with administrative offenses for promoting an extremist organization (AUE) and whom Ekaterina Mizulina and State Duma deputies are demanding to ban.

Why are we sharing all this?

This party is a classic example of what is happening in Russia right now.

For ordinary Russians, authorities arrange weekly OMON raids on clubs for daring to indulge in “excesses” during the “SVO” (Special Military Operation). Daily restrictions and bans. For themselves — private parties with black caviar and sanctioned champagne.

Ordinary Russians are banned from listening to ICEGERGERT for singing the “wrong songs,” while they themselves party to his music.

Putin’s press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, constantly says on air that “in the context of the special military operation and unprecedented information warfare,” harsh measures and restrictions are necessary and justified by the current situation. Meanwhile, his daughter Lisa restricts herself in absolutely nothing. This contradiction is total.

Truly, “life has turned out well.” Only, of course, for a very select few.
